Connecticut Taproom Partners

A New Type of Taproom

While many breweries and taprooms are shifting away from food service, often relying on food trucks to fill the void, Surfridge owners Jen & Steve Lieberman had a different idea for their Connecticut location. Their idea was to combine some of their favorite items into one concept: Craft Beer + Raw Bar.

This idea ballooned into adding a custom-built wood oven on site to offer hot pizza and other hot items. From there a unique and creative menu was born built on the following concepts:

  • Local Ingredients
  • Fresh Ingredients
  • High-Flavor Dishes

Local Partnerships Key to Success

Yes, Surfridge Brewing Co is an award-winning brewery, but we also offer a full cocktail menu, mocktail menu, and food menu as well. To do this we partner with local and regional businesses who share our passion for high quality products produced locally. Below are just some of the amazing Connecticut and regional companies we partner with and sell products from at our Connecticut location.

First time there..... WOW, it was great. Beer was fantastic. We had bone marrow, a dozen Mystic oysters, and a mushroom pizza. The food was great. Emily, our server, was excellent. The brewery atmosphere was really nice, and the entire visit was pleasant. We will be back. Visited again, still awesome, the cooks were great ambassadors of the brewery,

We were looking for a new place to eat at in our area and Surfridge Brewing popped up on Google maps. We visited yesterday and fell in love with this place. It has a refreshing atmosphere and the food is great! They don’t have a huge menu but what they offer is unique and very tasty. Definitely try the smoked fish dip and Rosemary’s Baby mocktail when you visit.

Get yourself to Surfridge Brewing! The beer, food, service and decor were excellent! This gem that is housed in the historic Witch Hazel Building in Centerbrook, right next to the Essex Train Station. It brings a very relaxing West Coast vibe to the CT Shoreline. One major advantage that Surfridge has over other local breweries is they have a full bar menu. While their beer is fantastic, my wife does not like beer. So having the option a full bar and local wine list is a huge plus!As for their food, it is local, fresh and fantastic. The range of choices from seafood, to salads, to pizza from a wood fired oven will be sure you do not leave hungry. This weekend was my first visit but definitely not my last! Thank you Surfridge for choosing this part of CT to make your East Coast home!

Selection of beer was great. Food choices were varied and delicious. We chose the charcuterie tray which had cheeses from nearby makers. Meats were different and so good! They had a guest cider pour as well which we enjoyed.

Wow! We're currently working our way through the CT Beer Trail. This place is GREAT! Our server Mike gave us good recommendations. The hazy ipa was my favorite. They also have cocktails if you're not into beer. I tried a tiki rum drink that was pretty refreshing. The pizza was DELICIOUS. I highly recommend the spicy Capicola. 👌 I also love that they have used books to bring the check. It was sweet to read the messages left by other patrons. All in all, this was the perfect stop after a day out on the water. I can't wait to bring my friends back here.

We had a great time at Surfridge- the beer and cocktails were great and for a place that was pretty busy we never felt like we waited. Dinner was amazing we had the sausage and fennel pizza, a dozen oysters, charcuterie, and steak and roasted potatoes.. everything was cooked to perfection. The manger Alex even check in on us to make sure our experience was top notch! Totally suggest this!!

Awesome place. Great to have a brewery open up in Centerbrook for a local hangout with good food and decent drinks. We needed this. Margarita pizza and baked oysters were amazing! Can’t wait for summer to sit out on the patio with a drink.

Hidden landscape in the Essex, CT area behind the old “Witch Hazel Works” warehouse and next to the Essex Steam Train…. YES!!!You can MISS the entrance if you don't know where you're going as there is no big sign to speak of. Enter by the large water tower as you drive over the rail-road tracks coming off of Route 9. Love the vast, festive space—big bar, adult tables, upfront counter top tables for the kids to watch the pizza’s be made. Surfridge Brewing is a real Craft brewery and full-service restaurant. Looking forward to this spring to sitting outside and enjoy their outdoor patio. Word of mouth brought us here and it was fun-- the beers are all worth sampling. I particularly like the flavorful wheat Belgian, but the stout was complex and smooth. You can try a sampler of 5 interesting beers. There's a couple of big screens to watch sports. And here's something you don't see every day: a play area for the kiddies! I also hear that they're dog friendly. Our hostess was all smiles and helpful. What's not to like? Well worth a visit for beer, pizza & food lovers. Nice family atmosphere. Good vibes!

We went last night for some food and beer. Despite being short handed, the staff was quick, on the ball and super friendly. We started out with the octopus which was excellent and followed up with a margherita pizza, a dozen oysters, and duck confit. All of the food was excellent and it was nice to see a selection of oysters rather than just the usual Blue Points.Beer wise, I really enoyed both the kolsch and West Coast IPA. My wife liked the oatmeal stout and Belgian Witbier she had.The vibe and layout is very nice. There is a large bar area up front and a nice sized dining area toward the back. The homage to the blue butterfly and lamp post from the original West Coast location is nice to see. There is a large patio that will be great when the weather gets warmer. This is definitely a great place to check out if in the area.

When my husband and I walked into this place we immediately felt transported to Miami Beach? California? with a lively, hip vibe! The contemporary, Industrial style provided a very cool atmosphere in which to enjoy a craft cocktail (me) or house brewed beer (my husband). No entrees are offered here but there is a curated selection of small plates. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his selection from the oyster bar which he found to be very fresh and well prepared. Our simple salad was delicious and the pork belly with pickled slaw was heavenly!!! Don't leave here without trying the pork belly!!! We also shared duck confit and the most delicious roasted cauliflower I've ever had. We found the staff to be super friendly and efficient. When we first arrived we saw a lot of families with little kids enjoying thin crust pizzas, then later in the evening, the 20 and 30 somethings arrived in droves. We are so happy to have this fun, happening place right here in our hometown!

I enjoyed Surfridge so much. The space is open and the natural light is stunning. The Kölsch was delicious and I almost finished the onion pizza by myself - it was so good! Shout out to the aperol smash cocktail and cauliflower dish too! Can’t wait to go back!

Artichoke pizza was good. The food menu had some other interesting items on there as well. I'll come back for the food alone. The staff/bartenders were friendly. The brewing owl milkshake IPA was smooth. Not too sweet.
